PHotoEspaña Protectors

PHotoEspaña was launched in 1998 with the aim of exposing the public to the best established and emerging photographers and visual artists, and hopes of becoming an event that fosters reflection regarding photography.

The Festival was built upon ideals that have become more consolidated with each new edition.

With an international vision that places Spanish photography within a global context, PHotoEspaña has celebrated more than a thousand exhibitions and events focused on the medium of photography in the country’s principal institutions. Thanks to the work of artists as distinct and extraordinary as Irving Penn, Robert Mapplethorpe, André Kertész, Joan Fontcuberta, August Sander, Francesca Woodman, Alberto García-Alix, Andreas Gursky, Rosângela Rennó, Chema Madoz, Català-Roca, Cristina García-Rodero, Paul Graham, Dorothea Lange, Cristina de Middel and Ricard Terré, we have learned to better understand and appreciate all things photographic.

The Festival’s aspirations are to be an initiative arising from and serving society. Each year the sum of many people’s efforts make PHotoEspaña a reality, thanks to agreements and collaborations that apportion the exertions, responsibilities, enthusiasm and celebration intrinsic to the event. PHotoEspaña is an ambitious project that is only made possible through the diligence of many people and organizations.

We want to invite all sectors of society, both private and public, to participate in PHotoEspaña’s Protector program, contributing to its many fundamental and intimate aspects so that together we can continue to enjoy photography with pleasure and courage.

Our Protectors are a fundamental part of the efforts which make possible this photography even each and every year. Our Protectors learn first-hand about the conception and development of the project from its initial stages to its final moments at the hands of its leading protagonists: artists, curators, technical crews… Experience activities from the first row, enjoy exclusive events in unique settings, share experiences and emotions with those responsible for producing them, enjoy events and activities aimed exclusively at Protectors throughout the year.

Being a Protector of PHotoEspaña is literally to create PHotoEspaña, to fashion as well as enjoy it. In a word, to make it one’s own.

PHotoEspaña is for everyone; by everyone; and thanks to everyone.
