PHotoEspaña International School Centre Alcobendas

The PHotoEspaña International Centre Alcobendas has designed a five-year academic programme that is structured in two sections, with the first and second years classified as Basic Studies and the third, fourth and fifth years as Higher Studies. The implementation of the new curriculum wich started in the academic year 2016-17, will take place over three years, so in this year will take place the fourth and the fith course.

The aim of this change is to offer the future photographer a comprehensive technical and humanistic training, and is aimed at people who want to use photography as a means of personal and artistic expression as well as a career opportunity. At the end of the course, the academic training is completed with the PHotoEspaña Master’s course in photography, an intensive programme enabling students to embark upon a professional career in this discipline.

Over the course of the year, PIC.A also organises master classes open to the general public, professional seminars in which current issues in the medium are explored in depth, as well as single-subject workshops and online courses.

The PIC.A School, raised by the Council of Alcobendas and PHotoEspaña is based at the Espacio Miguel Delibes in Alcobendas, where more than 500 students receive training annually. The city has various outdoor exhibition spaces for photography and hosts important exhibitions at the Alcobendas Art Centre, home of the Alcobendas Photography Public Collection, one of the most important  in Spain.

The basic studies cycle (levels 1 and 2) focuses on learning the different photographic techniques to help each of the students develop their individual vision.

The higher studies cycle (levels 3, 4 and 5) is designed for students who have successfully completed basic studies. It focuses on various creative areas such as documentary photography, portraiture, history, architecture, landscape, lighting, photographic aesthetic, fashion photography, or technical training. At the end of the cycle, once in level 5, a personal project must be presented with the tutelage of some of the institute’s instructors, who will be in charge of monitoring the progress of the student’s work.

Courses designed for students with ample knowledge of photography and who have already successfully completed PIC.A’s basic studies. The programme consists of one-year-long specialisation courses in different areas of photography: contemporary landscape, portraiture, advertising and fashion, video recording and editing, advanced digital laboratory, and photographic aesthetic.

Students taking the master’s degree will work together with renowned creators and international specialists to further develop their projects and give direction and a head start to their professional careers.
Over the course of the year the PHE Master’s organises a programme of activities that includes monographic workshops, which make it possible to learn directly from great masters of contemporary photography, professionalisation seminars and online courses, which provide the necessary tools to promote one’s work, a portfolio review for PIC.A students, and master classes.
